Themes like a good idea.

One theme I’m most surprised we haven’t yet covered here at Once Upon a Time in The ’70s, is, erm … children’s TV themes from the late ’60s and 1970s.

Wasn’t there some terrific opening and closing title-music? I guarantee, your favourite TV shows of the time also had a memorable theme. I certainly cannot think of a programme I enjoyed that opened with some duff music.

The following selection (I couldn’t take the stress of trying to put them in any kind of order) will resonate, I’m sure. There’s bound to be at least one of these that would make into your list of favourites, right?

So, come on then … what ones have I missed? What children’s TV themes did you most look forward to hearing each week? What ones still have you humming along and tapping your feet today?

*** Some of these programmes screened initially in the mid to late 1960s, but were repeated throughout the ’70s also.

So they qualify! ๐Ÿ˜€ ***

(I bet you weren’t expecting me to include this one! It get’s me every time … happy tears though. ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ˜€ )

OK – normal service has been resumed. ๐Ÿ˜€

  1. The banana splits, loved that show, i even bought the record when it came out as a sped up version by the incredible shrinking dickies๐Ÿ˜

I missed the magic roundabout in the list which i also bought as a single from the one and only jasper carrot…

    • The Banana Splits song was tailor made for a Dickies cover, wasn’t it? (I remember JC’s version of The Magic Roundabout, too. I’m sure someone will mention / post the original TV version on the Facebook page . ๐Ÿ™‚ )
