Welcome to all our new readers. (Thanks Johnnie!)

‘Kongos’: John Kongos

Hi! … and a very warm welcome to everyone who may have joined us for the first time at ‘Once Upon a Time in The ’70s’ as a result of hearing our mention on the Johnnie Walker’s Sounds of The ’70s radio show.

I should firstly thank Johnnie and his team for allowing John Kongos his second, and I suspect, final entry into The Jukebox.

I have to concede, I took pelters at school for buying this particular single, and the album from which it was lifted. OK, so it wasn’t a ‘cool’ purchase like an L.P. by Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple or Cream, but isn’t individuality to be admired in music? It prepared me though, for the stick I was to get when I later confessed to also being a fan of The Sweet. 😀

So – here we go …. one more time!

When Paul and I started this blog two and a half years ago, the aim was to present something different to the many social media pages that offer reminders of the greatest decade. We wanted to create a space where readers from around the world could share specific memories and experiences of growing up / living through this period.

We’re certain you’ll find much to interest and amuse you from the three hundred-plus articles posted so far. And if you do like what you see, please help us spread the word via whatever social media you favour.

We have both a Private Facebook Group and a Public Page; we are on Twitter (or whatever it’s called today) Instagram and Pinterest. Links may be found on the Home page of this blog.

Curating ‘Once Upon a Time in The ’70s’ is just a hobby for Paul and myself. We don’t look to generate an income, nor do we seek to encourage advertising on our blog. We aim to offer uninterrupted, light-hearted and informative articles relating to the late ’60s and 1970s. That’s it!

Paul and I sure packed a lot into those ten years or so, as did our other regular contributors, but there’s a limit to our personal experiences.

So, if you have a story you’d like to share, please do let us know. Our contact and submissions details can be found on our … erm … Contact & Submission page. 😉

Thanks for stopping by.

We hope you enjoy the memories.

  1. I don’t believe I had ever heard about John Kongos – nothing wrong with that tune at all, at least in my book. I actually think it kinda rocks!

Plus, kudos for acknowledging you dug the song. How boring would the world be if we all loved the same music, whether it’s Zeppelin, Deep Purple or Cream, or any other great bands. Diversity is a good thing that can broaden our horizons!

    • Exactly! I do think John Kongos is vastly under rated. You should check put the Kongos album. I still play my original 50 years old vinyl copy regularly
And later songs like Impi – very native South African influenced – are well worth a listen. 😄

      • Will do after I get back home. I’m currently attending an Octoberfest in Freehold, New Jersey. They got a fairly decent and pretty versatile cover band. And, ya never know, the town’s most famous son, Bruce Springsteen, may show up!🤣
